It was in the middle of last week that an employee of Degerfor Municipality received a letter addressed to his workplace. The letter, which was handwritten, contained threats to the person and his family.

- They chose to tell us about the letter and we have acted. We responded because the letter had come to the City Hall. The person has been assaulted and we have reported the matter to the Swedish Work Environment Authority and SÄPO.

Why to SÄPO?

- It is part of my role as a security coordinator to report to SÄPO when this happens so that they have the opportunity to have an overview of similar events happening elsewhere, or can be derived from something that has happened before, says Per Hilding.

The threat not linked to the work

The threat in question should not be directed at the person in the role they have in the municipality, but be linked to the person in private. Family members should also be designated in the threat letter.

- For us, this is the first time this is happening and it is a new situation for all of us. But we take it very seriously and see no mitigating circumstances about what happened, says Per Hilding.

Have the police report the threat

The Swedish Work Environment Authority will shortly be visiting the workplace and the person has personally made a police report.

- We have received feedback from both the employee and the police that we have acted correctly by addressing it and we have offered calls at the occupational health service for the person in question, says Per Hilding.
