Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayyala denounced the UAE's "hostile" stance by making its capital a media platform for retired Major General Khalifa Hifter's militias to incite Tripoli, calling on the Security Council to intervene after Hifter's spokesman Ahmed al-Mesmari held a press conference in Abu Dhabi.

In a letter to the UN Security Council on Sunday, Sayala said the UAE's actions were in support of the aggressors against the Libyan capital, a subsidy for the killing of Libyans, and support for further abuses and war crimes.

He added that the UAE's actions are in support of the coup against the legitimate government and a flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions, calling on the Council to carry out its duties and maintain international peace and security, and to put officials and supporters of this aggression under international law.

He also stressed Libya's right to defend its sovereignty and repel the aggressors, and held the UAE responsible for moral and legal responsibility.

This comes a day after the Presidential Council of the Libyan National Accord government issued a statement describing Abu Dhabi's permission for Hifter's spokesman to hold his conference as a "hostile position."

The council said the position indicated that the UAE "allows the capital to be a media platform for militias who have attacked Tripoli."

During the news conference held by al-Mesmari in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, he appeared to try to highlight the UAE's support for Hifter and the military operation launched by his forces for months on Tripoli, which is under a government recognized by the United Nations.

Al-Mesmari said he rejected the invitation of UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salameh to return to the dialogue table, stressing that "a military solution to the conflict is the best way."
