For one year now, the deer have been monitoring moose, deer and deer. This is after sick moose were discovered in Norway and Finland. Last spring, two moose were found in Norrbotten, which carried the disease.

The hunter corps is important

When the mapping started during last year's moose hunt, the National Veterinary Institute (SVA) did not receive enough samples, but prior to this year's moose hunting, authorities and hunting associations have informed hunting teams and individual hunters about the disease and the mapping.

- The hunters are a key in this job of getting more samples because they are so many that are out in the woods and can detect possibly sick owners, deer or deer. The hunters are very important in this matter, says Karin Saltin, a game manager on the county administrative board in Västernorrland.

Skinny and blind

Immaculate animals suffer from changes in the brain and the symptoms can be behavioral changes and emaciation. One of the moose that was discovered in Norrbotten, a skinny 16-year-old moose cow, was described in circles around seemingly blind.

- If you suspect a sick animal, you should turn to SVA. If you are doubtful whether to send in samples, you can always consult with them, says Karin Saltin.
