Inside the garage, with lock with chain and steering wheel lock, stood Canita Dagård's son's moped. Something that didn't stop the thief. When Canita's son opened the garage doors one morning, there was no moped in the place.

- At first he thought he had put it outside the house because it was not in the garage. Which he did not have, so he was very shocked, says Canita Dagård.

How did it feel to be a parent?

- It's a disaster that things have gone this far. Now you have to buy extra locks, as it is not enough for a regular. Then you have to have insurance and they become increasingly expensive. It's a very boring development, Canita says.

Hope for help from the public

The son's moped is insured and theft is reported to the police. Hoping to find the moped, they have also gone out on social media with a search.

- Several thousand have shared the post. People are upset and people are coming together. They suggest that they have been able to see the moped, which is fantastic that there is engagement with people around, says Canita.

The number of thefts has doubled

According to the figures the police have produced for SVT News Halland, the number of mop thefts has doubled since 2016. Last year, a total of 121 stolen mopeds were moving and so far this year it is 46. At present, the police are working to appear in public to prevent crimes like these, but it is not often the crimes happen in front of the eyes of the police.

- The numbers speak their clear language, it has increased. We need to start working more with the insurance companies, motorcycle owners and other players in society, ”says Kenneth Mattson, Halmstad Municipal Police.

What tips do you have for moped owners?

- First and foremost to have a construction lock, so you can't cut it and even lock the moped if possible, says Kenneth Mattson
