Five crew members managed to leave the boat and were picked up by another ship.

Thirty-three people on board a fire-ravaged tourist boat off the coast of California remained missing Monday morning, the coastguard said.

The firefighters were fighting the flames when "the ship sank, about 20 meters from the coast," say the coastguard in a statement. A total of 38 people were on board but five of them, members of the crew, were able to leave the boat on their own and were picked up by another vessel.
