“In this case, sanctions from the United States affect not only Russia, but also many European states that understand that Nord Stream 2 has economic feasibility and benefits. I met with many deputies of the German Bundestag who fully support the construction of the Russian project, ”said the deputy.

Shvytkin also noted that such a decision of the Senate Committee of the US Congress is "an element of unhealthy competition."

“I think that the atmosphere created by the imposition of sanctions will have a negative impact on the United States themselves in some areas in the field of economics,” he concluded.

Earlier, the US Senate Committee on International Affairs voted for sanctions against companies and individuals involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

For the bill to enter into force, it must be approved by the House of Representatives and the US Senate, as well as US President Donald Trump.
