The FSB of Russia, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, prevented a terrorist act, the purpose of which was to become one of the infrastructure facilities in Tatarstan. It is reported by the press service of the department. During the operation, two suspects were detained. Both of them are citizens of Russia, but their names are not disclosed in the interests of the investigation.

“Two citizens of the Russian Federation who are supporters of the international Islamic organization Islamic State * banned in Russia, who were involved in recruiting local people into terrorist structures and promoting terrorism, were detained at the site of the planned crime,” the FSB Public Relations Center reports.

According to the ministry, explosives and improvised explosive devices were confiscated from the detainees. Currently, the FSB is conducting investigative and investigative activities.

The latest prevented attacks

Recently, the special services conducted a series of detentions in different regions of Russia.

On July 15, FSB officers liquidated a cell of the terrorist organization Islamic State in the Rostov Region. Members of the formation prepared acts of terrorism in public places and attacks on police officers. The cell consisted of three citizens of Russia.

It was reported that the terrorists resisted during the arrest. The leader of a criminal group opened fire on law enforcement officers when they tried to stop his car, he was eliminated by return fire.

Subsequently, two more members of the cell were detained in Rostov-on-Don. During the search, explosives, detonators and ammunition were confiscated from them, the FSB reported.

Since the middle of 2018, more than 50 members of the Islamic State have been identified in the Southern Federal District, said Oleg Yuzhakov, head of the FSB department in the Rostov region, on June 24.

In June, law enforcement agencies also prevented a terrorist attack in Saratov. According to the FSB, a Russian citizen acquired various materials and damaging elements in order to manufacture an explosive device and activate it in a crowded place. In his garage, he equipped a laboratory for the production of explosives, in the same place he kept weapons and ammunition.

During the arrest, the terrorist offered armed resistance and was neutralized by members of the special services.

Also, the FSB prevented several terrorist attacks in May. On May 28, law enforcement officers arrested a supporter of radical Islam, who was planning an attack on FSB officers in the city of Kharabali in the Astrakhan Region.

On May 22, in the town of Kolchugino, Vladimir region, intelligence officers conducted a counter-terrorist operation (CTO) to detain two militants who were planning to commit a terrorist act. Militiamen blocked the terrorists in a private house and offered to lay down their arms. In response, the militants opened fire, during the shootout, they were eliminated.

In April, the FSB destroyed a conspiratorial terrorist cell, consisting of 5 people, in Grozny and Makhachkala. The group members intended to launch attacks on police officers in Kaspiysk and Grozny. One of the detainees confessed during interrogation that he was planning an attack using a quadrocopter.

Meanwhile, on July 30, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia announced that since the beginning of 2019, 17 terrorist attacks had been prevented in the country.

“The danger remains of creating hotbeds of terrorist activity in the regions of the country. This is confirmed by the number of terrorist acts prevented by law enforcement agencies. In the past six months, there have been 17 such attempts (committing terrorist acts - RT ), ”he said at a meeting of the Prosecutor General’s Office following the results of the first half of 2019.
