The Pakistani Foreign Ministry responded to the initiative put forward by Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad during his current visit to Ankara, in which he called for cooperation between Turkey, Malaysia and Pakistan in order to achieve an Islamic renaissance.

"I warmly welcome the initiative that calls on Malaysia, Turkey and Pakistan to cooperate for the Islamic renaissance and the unification of the Islamic world," Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a tweet on Twitter.

"This important tripartite initiative will go a long way in promoting unity, cooperation and development throughout the Muslim world," he said.

During a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, the Malaysian prime minister said that in cooperation with Turkey and Pakistan, Islamic civilization could be revived.

"By consolidating our minds and capabilities, we can advance the great Islamic civilization that once existed, by working together with Malaysia and Turkey, and in cooperation with Pakistan at the same time," Mahathir said.

He added that these Islamic countries should be developed, and that a country should achieve this goal, "and we believe that Turkey is a candidate country in this regard."

He stressed the need for the independence of the Islamic countries, expressing confidence that the cooperation between Malaysia and Turkey will save the Islamic nation from the pressures on it.
