A military spokesman for Yemen's al-Houthi group, Yahia Sari, announced that a number of K-2 bombers were targeted at the Saudi airport in Najran.

He said the attack targeted the control and control rooms of the aircraft and the marching of the aircraft, as well as targeting other military sites. He added that the injury was accurate, and led to the disruption of air navigation at Najran airport, he said.

There was no immediate statement from the Saudi authorities to confirm or deny the attack.

Last month, al-Huthi threatened that their operations would extend to sensitive targets elsewhere in Saudi Arabia, stressing that Abha, Jazan, Asir and Najran airports were becoming unsafe and would be permanently targeted.

The Al-Houthi group has recently stepped up its assaults on medium-range and medium-range missiles on Saudi targets, notably Jazan and Abha airports, while the group occasionally announces the killing of Saudi soldiers in clashes near the Yemeni border.

The escalation of the Houthis did not stop at the airfields. They confirmed the arrival of their planes in June to the King Khalid airbase in Khamis Mushait, southwest of Saudi Arabia. Prior to May 14, seven planes targeted two Saudi Aramco pumping stations.

The Houthis control the capital Sana'a since September 2014, before expanding their dominance to several provinces. Since March 2015, a coalition led by Saudi Arabia has backed Yemeni government forces against the group in a war that has left a severe humanitarian crisis, the worst in the world, according to the United Nations.
