This is reported by the press service of the Ukrainian leader.

“The recent verdict of the Pavia court to the citizen of Ukraine Vitaliy Markivu on charges of murder of the Italian journalist Andrea Rokkelli in the Donbass in 2014 was discussed,” the report said.

It is noted that Zelensky offered legal assistance to Kiev in conducting a thorough joint examination of the circumstances of the death of Rokkelli.

He also expressed concern about the "unjustifiably harsh court decision."

In addition, Zelensky invited Italian President Sergio Mattarella to visit Ukraine.

Earlier, Zelensky ordered the return of Markiv, sentenced in Italy to 24 years in prison.

In May 2014, Italian journalist Andrea Rokkelli and his translator Andrei Mironov, a Russian citizen, were killed under Slavic, shot at them with mortar shells. Later, the investigation found out that the Italian reporter was deliberately fired.
