Former Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller at Congressional Hearing in Washington, DC, July 24, 2019. SAUL LOEB / AFP

Former Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller is auditioned on Wednesday, July 24 for the first time in Congress to clarify his investigation into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US campaign. In front of elected officials, Robert Mueller repeated that his report made public last May does not completely exculpate Donald Trump who claims to have been whitened by his investigation. A difficult exercise for Robert Mueller, a man of the shadow par excellence who has always fled the media exposure.

Robert Mueller appeared tired, uncomfortable, sometimes even reluctant under the heavy fire of the questions of the American parliamentarians. The former special prosecutor had not made any public appearance during his two years of investigation and would have preferred to avoid this hearing.

Before the Congress, he is often content to answer yes or no. " My testimony is in my report ... I will not say anything more, " he warns from the outset.

The elected Democrats have therefore tried to make him repeat several times that his report does not exculpate Donald Trump despite the lack of prosecution against him.

A question will probably remain in the memories: " Have you totally exonerated the president ? "NO," answers Robert Mueller very clearly. Extract immediately very shared on social networks, intended of course to forget the slogan " no obstruction, no collusion ", repeated every day by Donald Trump since the publication of his 400-page report.

Moreover, says Robert Mueller, Donald Trump could be prosecuted for obstruction of justice once his term is over. But opposite the Republicans are doing everything to discredit his investigation, questioning the impartiality of his team, managing several times to destabilize.

Conclusion Donald Trump comments on the live hearing on Twitter: " This is a disaster for the Democrats and the reputation of Robert Mueller ".
