A source in the Sudanese Transitional Military Council, told Sky News Arab TV yesterday that a number of senior army officers and leaders of the former regime were arrested for questioning in a coup attempt. Other sources confirmed that among the detainees were Chief of Staff General Hashim Abdalmuttalib , The commander of the armored corps, Major General Nasr al-Din Abdul Fatah, and the commander of the central region, Major Bahr Ahmed Bahr.

It also included the leading arrests in the Islamic Movement: Ali Karti and Zubayr Ahmed Al Hassan.

The source pointed out that the military council is holding a meeting, to discuss this issue.

On 12 July, the Council announced that a coup attempt had been foiled by a number of officers. The chairman of the Security and Defense Committee, Gamaluddin Omar, told a press conference that "the organizers and participants in the failed coup attempt numbered 12 officers, And five were transferred to the pension, and four non-commissioned officers », indicating that« they were detained ».

On the other hand, the European Union considered yesterday that Sudan must enter the political transition without delay.

"The Sudan is in a sensitive position in the issues of migration and security for the EU," said EU Director of Africa, Kon Vervak.

He denied that the Union provided any support to the security forces or to the rapid support forces in Sudan, saying that these accusations are "false" and "lack any basis."

"The important thing now is to enter the country of political transition, without delay," he said, adding that "reform of the security services and the structure of the armed forces are two issues in the future."

This comes at a time when Sudanese sources revealed that the constitutional declaration will be signed in Sudan, next Sunday.

The sources pointed out that an agreement was reached by giving two seats in the RUF's sovereign council from the share of the "forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change", which is leading the popular protests.

She added that the sovereign council will be formed and the prime minister will be appointed following the signing of the constitutional declaration.
