One again! Jérémy Chardy has once again dropped one of his compatriots in Hamburg: after Benoît Paire, it is Richard Gasquet who lost, allowing the 77th world to reach the quarter-finals of the German tournament.

At 32, Chardy, winner in two sets (7-6, 7-5) and just under two hours on the German clay, will face in the quarterfinals Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (16 to 27 years). The defending champion needed three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to eliminate Argentina's Juan Ignacio Londero, 56th in the world at 25 and a finalist in Bastad, Sweden.

The match promises to be difficult for Chardy: Basilashvili has managed eight aces and saved five of the six break points against him.

Undoubtedly still tired by their round of 16 singles, Chardy and Pair lost in the first round of the double 7-6 (7/2), 6-4 against Croatian Ivan Dodig and Mate Pavic, seeded N.1.
