Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil, who won Wimbledon by eliminating Garbine Muguruza, was suspended on an interim basis after being tested positive for anabolic steroids during a doping test, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old, 99th in the world, was tested at the tournament in Bol (Croatia) last June. "Traces of MRSA S-22 and MRSA LGD-4033, two banned anabolic agents, were found in his urine samples," the ITF said in a statement.

Pursued for anti-doping rule violations, the provisional suspension of Haddad Maia, until the holding of a hearing, took effect from July 22nd, it was added.

In the first round of the last Wimbledon, qualifying Haddad Maia eliminated Spain's Garbine Muguruza, crowned in 2017 and ex-world No.1.

The Brazilian was then eliminated in the next round by Britain's Harriet Dart, the 140th in the world, who received an invitation.
