The heart of power again touched by terrorists in Somalia. Islamist Shebabs attacked the Mogadishu City Hall. A suicide bomber blew himself up inside the building. At least six people were killed and six injured, including the mayor of Mogadishu.

Shebabs have again shown their ability to infiltrate the most secure places. According to several sources, a suicide bomber was able to enter the town hall and set off his explosive belt in the office where the mayor was.

Abdirahman Osman was in a security meeting with several local officials. He was seriously injured, taken to the hospital where he had to undergo surgery. The district commissioners of Abdulaziz and Waberi, who attended the meeting, reportedly died.

The Shebabs claimed responsibility for the attack and said the target was James Swan. The new UN representative in Somalia, appointed on May 30, was lucky. The American diplomat was in the building for a meeting with the mayor a few hours earlier.

In a statement posted on Twitter, James Swan condemns the attack: " I deplore this heinous attack that not only bears witness to a violent contempt for the sanctity of human life, but also targets Somalis who are working to improve human rights. living conditions of their Somali compatriots in the Mogadishu-Banadir region ".

Shebabs regularly target Somali official buildings. In March, they attacked the Ministry of Labor and injured the deputy minister. In 2014 and 2015, they carried out attacks against the presidential palace, the Parliament, the intelligence services or the Ministry of Education.

Their modus operandi is known: to blow up a vehicle at the entrance to create a breach and bring in terrorists. But this time, they went further, with a suicide bomber blowing himself up directly in an office, inside an ultra-secure building.
