According to the MEP, one of the reasons for the collapse of the agreement was the fact that China was not among the signatories.
“Therefore, I believe that it is necessary to start work on a new generation arms agreement that would replace the INF Treaty and include China among the participants,” added Castaldo, noting that the EU should support any initiative aimed at creating such a treaty.
At the beginning of this year, the United States announced its intention to unilaterally withdraw from the INF Treaty, accusing Russia of violating the agreement.
The formal reason for this was the possibility of Russian 9M729 missiles.
Moscow, in turn, notes that Washington has violated the provisions of the INF Treaty since its use of target missiles in 1999.
