German eye doctor Dr. Tim Bema warned against wearing contact lenses while swimming because of their potential risk of serious eye infection.

The contact lenses - especially wet - may be saturated with water, and absorb the bacteria or chemicals such as chlorine, and cause inflammation of the cornea, which may lead to serious damage to the eyes, and advised to dispense with them and wearing a swimsuit instead of them to avoid danger.

The symptoms of keratitis are swelling, vision deterioration, redness of the eye, eyelid cramps, feeling of a foreign body in the eye, severe pain, sensitivity to light, and increased tear discharge.

If these symptoms occur, consult your doctor quickly to avoid complications.
