The Arab League praised the support provided by the UAE to women, the latest of which was the decision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to raise the representation of Emirati women in the Federal National Council to 50%.

This came during the opening session of a meeting on the proposed establishment of the Arab Network of Mediators for Peace, which was held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League with the participation of representatives of member states.

In her address to the meeting, Abu Ghazaleh called for the need to sharpen the international momentum to implement the agenda of women, security and peace, stressing the need for concerted efforts to increase the involvement of women in the negotiation and mediation processes and their full involvement in the peace-building process and shed light on the leading and effective role of Arab women.

It also called upon Member States to mobilize efforts to provide the necessary support and resources to activate the proposal for the establishment of the Arab Network of Mediators of Peace, to benefit from other regional networks, to exchange experiences and to integrate the women of the Arab region into peacemaking, mediation and dialogue processes.

She praised what has been achieved in the Arab region to achieve the political empowerment of women and their presence in decision-making positions in order to achieve equality in the process of representation at the negotiating table and mediation and conflict resolution.

She said that "today's meeting comes to continue the role played by the League of Arab States with its regional partners, and our belief in the need to achieve security and the dissemination of a culture of comprehensive peace and strengthen the role of women in this regard."

She explained that the proposal to establish an Arab network of women peace activists was the result of awareness of the issue of weak representation of women in mediation operations and the importance of the university to strengthen their role in the establishment of comprehensive peace as actors in conflict resolution.

"We can not deny that women are often excluded from the negotiating table and as long as they fail to integrate many of their needs in times of conflict according to different ethnic, religious and linguistic identities," she said, noting that the Arab League considers tackling such a problem a necessity in the light of the challenges Grave consequences associated with armed conflict ".
