Roger Federer qualified for the third round of Wimbledon after winning Thursday in three sets 6-1, 7-6 (3), 6-2 against British Jay Clarke, 169th in the world, and continues his quest for a 21st Grand Slam.

Switzerland did not have much to fear from this match against a player invited by the organizers. The first set largely confirmed this feeling, shipped 6-1 in 28 minutes. And then the Brit started frankly challenging Master's authority in the second set, pushing him to tie-break. The eight-time winner at Wimbledon responded perfectly to the challenge, even going for a boost in the final set.

The Swiss lost only once to Wimbledon against a British player, Tim Henman in 2001 in the quarter-finals.

He will face the next round the winner of the French-French shock between Lucas Pouille and Grégoire Barrère.
