California was shaken Thursday July 4 by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake. No casualties were reported.

With our correspondent in Washington, Anne Corpet

California had not experienced such an earthquake for two decades. It occurred at exactly 10:33 in the morning. The epicenter was located 240 kilometers northeast of Los Angeles near Ridgecrest, a rural area less densely populated than the California coast.

Sixty shocks were felt after the earthquake. Residents who testify in the US media report seeing objects falling off shelves and rushing out. Several buildings caught fire, water pipes were broken, power lines fell, cracks appeared on buildings, and because of falling rocks, roads became impassable.

" Have been fully informed about the earthquake in Southern California. Everything seems to be largely under control, "responded President Donald Trump on Twitter.

Been fully briefed on earthquake in Southern California. All seems to be very much under control!

But the seismic episode is not over, warn scientists. They expect further shocks, some of which could be severe. A large seismic fault is crossing California and the state lives in constant fear of a major earthquake. " This one was strong, it reminds us that we must be ready for the worst, " tweeted the Los Angeles police.

At this time, the LAPD is related to the #earthquake. Remember, 911 is only to report emergencies. This was a strong one, and a good reminder to be prepared đź”— https://t.co/fURDNcMhhQ
