Egypt's former presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Abul-Fotouh is threatening the fate of the late Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in prison, nine rights groups said.

The organizations added - in a statement - that the life of Abu Al-Fotouh is in danger because of medical negligence, which has become a common practice in Egyptian prisons, and is similar to the death sentence, the statement said.

The statement claimed that the Egyptian regime is responsible for the significant deterioration in the case of Abu Al-Fotouh health, because of the deliberate deprivation of treatment and medical care necessary to him, in a way that constitutes a serious threat to his life.

The statement demanded the authorities concerned and international bodies to intervene to save the life of Abu Al-Fotouh, and to prevent recurrence of the scenario of the death of former President Mohamed Morsi because of his deprivation of health care throughout his imprisonment.

Abu Fotouh's son said his father had suffered a heart attack due to the conditions of his imprisonment and was deliberately abusing him, warning that he might lose his life because of the circumstances.

According to his family, Abu Al-Fotouh, 67, suffers from many chronic diseases such as diabetes and stress, as well as health problems in the heart muscle and prostate, as well as severe sleep disorders. For a year and a half of abuse, To a clear increase in the complications of these diseases.

Abdel Moneim Abul-Fotouh was one of the presidential nominees for President Mohamed Morsi in 2012, after he announced his secession from the Muslim Brotherhood during the period of the junta, and established the powerful Egypt Party, which was opposed to Mursi.

The authorities arrested Abu Al-Fotouh after returning from London after an interview with Al-Jazeera criticized the ruling of President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi before his re-election in March 2018.
