A penalty case

The first half of the game was mostly a penalty shootout. In the 19th minute, the controversial Gehad Grisha , suspended for six months by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and then reinstated by the CAF for CAN 2019, denies one to the Senegalese. A hand of Victor Wanyama in his penalty area seems obvious.

In the 28th minute, the Egyptian referee sanctions however a fault on the lateral Saliou Ciss. Sadio Mané then takes his momentum, places the ball well but his shot is much too soft to beat a Patrick Matasi party on the good side.

The Kenyan goalkeeper is decisive, despite the clear domination of the "Teranga Lions". It deviates indeed the ball on the cross, following a header from Ismaïla Sarr.

Ismaïla Sarr unblocks the situation

In the second half, Patrick Matasi continues his festival, either on a heavy shot in the middle Henri Saivet (52) or half a volley from the center forward Mbaye Niang (60).

The light for Senegal finally comes from a brilliant sequence from Ismaïla Sarr. In the 63rd minute, the ball comes to the winger who controls the chest and sends it as dry in the nets of a volley: 0-1. Patrick Matasi, on that one, missed his exit, and he pays him cash.

Kenyans have long delayed the deadline, even being dangerous on a free kick Dennis Omino (62). But the "Harambee Stars" finally crack completely. In the 71st minute, on a long aerial balloon, Sadio Mané jostled just enough Mohamed Musa, to grab the ball and beat Matasi in one-on-one: 0-2.

The double of Sadio Mané

In the wake, Sadio Mané gets a penalty and the exclusion of Philemon Otieno after being mowed by the latter in the Kenyan surface. The superstar does not tremble this time and is done justice: 0-3, 78th. This is his first international double.

Thanks to this broad victory, Senegal finished second in group C behind Algeria, wide winner (0-3) of Tanzania.

CAN 2019 : REACTIONS AFTER KENYA - SENEGAL

Sébastien Migné, Kenya team coach : " We were both not so far and not so close to Senegal. Unfortunately, at the top level, when you make a mistake, you are sanctioned immediately. Senegal is of a very high standard. I'm disappointed for my players because we created problems for the Senegalese for an hour. Now we have to wait until the end of the first round and hope. "[Interviewed by Antoine Grognet]

Lamine Gassama, defender of the Senegal team : " We made a good start to the match, overall. But we had trouble scoring this first goal. Fortunately, progressively, the situation has settled. We managed to put Kenyans in trouble through the sides. Today, we can say that we really moved on, after our defeat against Algeria . This setback put us back in a certain way. "
