Sudanese police fired tear gas at demonstrators in neighborhoods of the capital Khartoum, as thousands of Sudanese took to the streets in several cities in response to a call for a mass demonstration on Sunday in the «June 30 million» against the Transitional Military Council.

Today, mass demonstrations in Khartoum were launched at the invitation of the "forces of freedom and change" to demand the handover of power to civilian bodies.

Thousands of Sudanese took part in demonstrations in several cities, including Port Sudan (east), Wood (central civil) and the White (west).

According to the channels «Arab» and the event «the streets of Khartoum were closed all the capital with the start of demonstrations, and a security cordon was imposed on all entrances leading to the army leadership. The "gathering of professionals" called on protesters to go to the presidential palace.

The security forces used tear gas to disperse demonstrations in the city of Gedaref, in Port Sudan and in Khartoum, particularly in the Berri area, and in the Mamoura and Warkwit districts east of the capital against demonstrators shouting "civil rule, civil rule!" Heavy tear gas at Omdurman also caused fainting.

There has been a widespread security deployment, which has been accompanied by demonstrations in different areas amid limited violence. Witnesses reported that a demonstrator in the capital was hit by a tear gas canister in his head. Activists also said a demonstrator was shot dead in the northern city of Atbara.

Politically, there was talk of a second meeting between representatives of the Forces for Freedom and Change and the Transitional Military Council.

The Transitional Council had pre-empted the demonstrations by charging the "forces of freedom and change" with responsibility for any loss of life, or any damage that might result from the June 30 million protests.

In the midst of heavy movements of Sudanese political actors, political parties welcomed the demonstrations carried out by "the forces of freedom and change" which they called "the million martyrs".

The Coordination of National Forces, which includes several political blocs, said that in the context of its opposition to any bilateral agreement between the military junta and the forces of freedom and change, the transitional period would be rejected for three years.

The forces of freedom and change held up the demonstrations, saying that peaceful demonstration was a legitimate right, and demanded that the military council direct the security services to protect the processions, bearing the responsibility for the fall of any victims during the marches.
