Spain's Maverick Vinales (Yamaha) on Sunday won the Dutch GP at the Assen circuit in front of his compatriot Marc Marquez (Honda) and Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha).

This is the first victory this season for Vinales and Yamaha while Marquez takes the opportunity to widen his lead at the world championship. Leading the way, Quartararo, revelation of the season, led during the first laps before taking the plunge but still signed his second podium in a row.

This is the 6th victory of Vinales, 24, in MotoGP. His team-mate Valentino Rossi, who had gone far off the grid, fell during the race after hitting another competitor.

"I live a dream," said the winning Spanish driver, noting that Assen was not his favorite.

Fabio Quartararo, 20, records his second consecutive podium for his first MotoGP season. The Nice driver obviously suffered from the arms on arrival. He was operated at the beginning of June of the "syndrome of the lodges", a muscular inflammation of the forearms.

"It was hard, I had trouble controlling the bike," he told Canal + after the arrival.

In the championship, Marc Marquez, five-time world champion, increases his lead over Italian Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), 4th in the race on Sunday.

"It's important for the championship," said Marquez, admitting he could not keep up with Vinales. He has already won 4 of 8 events this season.
