“Finland is starting its presidency in the European Union, and in this role we will be able to influence the future of the EU. Whether Finland is considered a small or large EU member depends on us. The future of the EU should be social, economic and environmentally sustainable. In the slogan of our chairmanship, the goal is clearly formulated: “Sustainable Europe is a sustainable future,” said Prime Minister Antti Rinne.

The Finnish Prime Minister added that another key priority of the Finnish presidency is the EU’s global leadership in the fight against climate.

Earlier, the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk, decided to suspend the EU summit in order to hold bilateral consultations on candidates for European institutions.
