Dr.. Osama Abu Rab

During the last month of Ramadan, Dr. Bassem Yousif returned to his audience with Plant B, a program that promoted vegetarianism, which was answered on social networking sites. But is vegetarian diet really the best?

PlanetB TV on YouTube has recorded more than seven million views of the Yusuf program - a well-known Egyptian media and television program provider - with more than 300,000 subscribers in the channel.

"Our diets have changed drastically over the past 30 years," Dr. Bassem Yousif wrote on PlanetB's website.

"These systems have moved away from the nutritious and wonderful foods that nature gave us after our dietary habits dominated our American diet of processed foods, vegetables, genetically modified fruits and lots of sugar, fat and salt."

"All this has led to an increase in obesity in the Middle East by 75 per cent, a 9 per cent increase in diabetes, and a 50 per cent increase in the mortality rate associated with heart disease," he added.

"The good news is that since some types of food cause us many diseases, changing the quality of food can cure and eliminate these diseases, I am here to tell you that you have another option, you are not in your genes, you are not born to be lazy, Weight and do not feel ashamed of your body .. It is clear that the American diet does not work .. Let's replace it with a complete vegetarian diet. "

In the program, Bassem Youssef hosted experts and doctors who spoke about the dangers of animal diets.

On the site there are "stories" of people who followed the complete vegetarian system, such as Imad Shaker, who weighed 167 kilograms to 80 kilograms, and Nina and Veranda Nelson, who managed to reduce acne by following the vegetarian system.

What is a vegetarian diet?
A vegetarian diet is a diet that depends on eating only plant foods. Vegetarians are divided into two main sections, a section that does not eat anything from animals or dairy products, but only plants, while the second section deals with fish and animal products such as milk, eggs and others.

Some are adhering to a vegetarian diet to reduce the risk of certain diseases, while others may follow for philosophical reasons for refusing to kill a living organism.

In contrast to the pro-vegetarian opinion presented by Dr. Bassem Yousif in his Planet B program, and through the program's website for success stories of people who improved their health by following the vegetarian diet, there were opposing responses and also based on strong medical data and personal experiences.

One of the most prominent responses was from the specialist of internal medicine and kidneys Dr. Mohamed Mansour, who said in a video on his YouTube channel that the models presented by Bassem Youssef in his program for successful and vegetative people are not successful because they are vegetarians, but they are successful and they are vegetarians (ie there is no causal relation between the person being Vegetative and become successful). There are many models of failed people who are vegetarians, successful people who eat meat.

Dr. Mansour pointed to several points including:

1. It is wrong to say that meat, fish, shrimps and stalls weaken sexual ability in men.

2. It is wrong to quote Dr. Bassem Yousef with a study that says that after Hitler's occupation of Norway, heart disease deaths declined because Hitler prevented Norwegians from eating meat. In fact, many Norwegians died as a result of war or war wounds; As a result of his involvement in the war he became less weight and more fit.

4. It is wrong to say that 30% of the world's population are vegetarians.

5 - It is a mistake that Joseph's name in the program that the plant diet is a mercy of animals, while the reality is that the animal will eventually die, and will die in one of two ways: either by slaughter in a compassionate way, like what Muslims do and also what respected countries do, or prey by animals Other, predatory videos show how animals are preyed on by other animals (in a hideous and ugly manner), so when you slaughter these animals - according to Islamic teachings or as respected countries do - you are merciful to them.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Nazer, in a video on his YouTube channel, said that he tried the vegetarian diet, but with his followers, he had a very strong reduction in sexual function and erection, which was attributed to a reduced calorie intake compared to his active lifestyle.

Arguments however

Vegetarian diet advocates generally offer several arguments:

Reduce the risk of heart attack, cancer and stroke.

Reduce exposure to bacteria in animal foods.

3. Provide more food for vulnerable groups, as many agricultural materials are fed to cattle and poultry for the purpose of eating their meat.

4. Rescuing animals from being detained and then slaughtered on farms.

Negatives
According to previous comments by Margaret Morlo, a member of the German Dietetic and Dietetics Association of Aachen, total elimination of animal foods can lead to deficiencies in certain nutrients, especially iron, calcium, vitamin B12 and D.

If vegetarians do not balance their diet, they may be chronically exhausted by iron deficiency or bone fractures due to lack of calcium, Morlo said. She stressed the need to consult with these specialists periodically to verify whether they are supplied with the necessary nutrients naturally.

It may include the following vegetarian diet disadvantages:

1 - The transition to the plant nutrition system causes the emergence of some symptoms such as puffiness and dyspepsia. To alleviate these symptoms, nutritionists are advised to move gradually and slowly.

2 - Change in the sense of taste: Zinc is a food component responsible for many functions in the body, including the sense of taste.

Those who wish to adopt plant nutrition must have enough zinc in their diet so that their taste is not affected. Pulses and nuts make it difficult to absorb zinc, which means that dependence on legumes is a source of protein, which can lead to a reduction in zinc in the body.

3 - The need for longer time to regain activity after exercise: The body needs to digest plant proteins longer than animal proteins, which means that the vegetarians and athletes in particular, need more time to restore their activity after exercise, compared to those who eat meat.

4 - Many vegetarians suffer from lack of iron and other minerals, which means that vegetarians compensate for the lack of iron and other minerals by taking vitamins and minerals.
