Karolina Pliskova, a N.3-ranked Czech, easily qualified for the knockout round of the Eastbourne (England) grass tournament, and Denmark's Caroline Woznicacki (N.14), the defending champion, easily passed the 1st round, Monday.
Pliskova eliminated the Russian Margarita Gasparya 6-3, 6-3, and will meet in 8th the winner of the match between her compatriot Marketa Vondoursova (N.16) and the Belgian Elise Mertens (N.21).
Wozniacki dismissed Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens, 6-3, 6-4, and will face Germany's Petkovic (N.70) in the second round.
"I love playing here, I have great memories, I came for the first time at 14, so that's about half of my life," said Woznicaki, 28.
