Three weeks after being accused in a BBC report on the management of oil and gas in Senegal, the brother of Macky Sall announced Monday, June 24 his resignation from the Caisse des Depots and Consignations, at the head of which he had appointed in September 2017 by the Head of State.

Pressure from the street, from the Senegalese opposition, Aliou Sall has finally yielded. " It is my duty to wash my dirty honor, to protect mine, " said Aliou Sall in a long letter made public on Monday, in which he claims to be today " the public enemy number one ." And it is to protect his interests and those of Senegal that he resigned from the Caisse des Depots et Consignations (CDC), which he had been running since September 2017. " It's a campaign aimed at" dehumanizing "me (... ), to present myself as a " character without faith or law that taunts a bloodless people ," he writes.

In June 2012, shortly after his first election, President Macky Sall confirmed the decision of his predecessor, Abdoulaye Wade, to award the exploitation of the two offshore oil and gas fields to Petro-Tim, a company owned by businessman Frank Timis. In a report broadcast on June 3, the BBC claimed that Aliu Sall had received in 2014 a bribe of $ 250,000 from the group Timis, where he was also engaged after the arrival of his brother in power.

Aliou Sall has always said he never touched $ 250,000 Frank Timis, but his defense began to crack last week when a presidential adviser said the transfer had been made and that Aliou Sall had perceived fees as an agricultural consultant.

The brother of the Head of State has therefore made the choice to resign, to take the lead, but he reiterates that he has nothing to reproach himself with: " All this unfortunate controversy is maintained only around a fabric of amalgams and untruths .

And Aliou Sall is also clearly ready to respond to justice because he says he is in tune with the decision of the state to open a judicial inquiry: "With the deep conviction that tomorrow it will be day, and that the light will finally be right of darkness, I take here before you the decision to resign, "he concludes.

Aliou Sall finally thanks his brother: " Mr. President of the Republic who, beyond the same blood we share, knows better than anyone, in what mold of virtue, wisdom and humility we were educated together, understands what I'm doing right now. "

Aliou Sall is no longer director of the Caisse des Dépôts, but he retains his position as mayor of Guédiawaye. It is in any case the first fuse, the first official resignation in this case of oil and gas that shakes Senegal.
