The head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, announced his intention to resign ahead of schedule. He made the corresponding statement on the air of the Ingushetia National TV and Radio Company.

“I made my choice. As an Ingush, as a patriot, as a militant officer who gave an oath to defend the Motherland, I decided to appeal to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin with a request for the early resignation of my powers as head of the republic, ”said Yevkurov.

The head of Ingushetia explained his decision by disunity and the need for each to choose between his own interests and the republic.

“Let's take the courage to say that all of us - the power that I represent, public, religious organizations - are responsible for the fact that today we are divided. Each of us has a choice: personal interests or interests of the republic. And everyone, I emphasize, everyone acts in accordance with his upbringing, his ideals, ”Yevkurov explained.

For the first time, he was appointed head of Ingushetia in October 2008 as acting head of the region. In September 2018, deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic elected Yevkurov for another term. In accordance with the law, the powers of the head of the region expire in 2023.

Yevkurov, in his speech, noted that over the years of his work, a lot of work had been done, in particular, in the region they managed to defeat terrorism and achieve peace. He also stated that with the help of the federal center in Ingushetia, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, sports facilities and roads are being built.

“By many indicators, the Republic has become a leader among the regions of Russia. Just the other day, we had another great joy - a half-million inhabitant of our republic was born, ”continued Yevkurov.

He promised the residents of the region that he would “do everything possible for the prosperity of Russia and his native Ingushetia,” wherever he was.

“I remain with my heart and soul forever with Ingushetia, with my people, with each of you,” he concluded.

The CEC said that the election of a new head of the region could take place on the day of the single vote on September 8. The secretary of the organization Maya Grishina told TASS news agency about this. According to her, such a situation is possible because of the choice of Yevkurov's date for filing his resignation.

“In 184 federal law, it says that if the powers were terminated no later than July 1, then the election vote takes place on a single voting day. That is, in this situation, everything falls under this story, ”explained Grishina.
