It's D-Day for the presidential election in Mauritania. The first round will be held this Saturday, June 22nd. Some 1.5 million voters at the polls will have to decide between six candidates. Five are from the opposition, they face the dolphin of the outgoing president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, prevented by the Constitution from representing himself.

Polling stations are open from 07:00 to 19:00 UT and the first results expected early next week.

Shortly before 7hTU and the opening of the poll, the bottom of the air is still fresh in Nouakchott. In all, nearly 5,000 polling stations are deployed across the country this Saturday. Six candidates are vying to succeed Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, the outgoing president.
