On the third day of the custody of three Chadians including General Mahamat Nouri, heard since Monday in France on suspicions of crimes against humanity related to abuses committed between 2005 and 2010 in Chad and Sudan, questions are today raised around these arrests in the best of the Chadian opposition in France. The interrogations concern an investigation that lasts two years on autosaisine of the pole crimes against humanity and war crimes of the court of Paris, against opponents who have been in France for some ten years for some.

The three men were arrested simultaneously in three different regions and then detained in Paris as part of a preliminary investigation opened in 2017 for "crimes against humanity, complicity in these crimes and criminal conspiracies", according to the parquet floor of Paris.

The three accused are heard on facts allegedly committed between 2005 and 2010 in Chad and Sudan, according to the prosecutor's office which does not give more details. A lawyer who regularly collaborates with the crime against humanity section and war crimes of the Paris court is questioning.

General Mahamat Nouri is someone with a long history of human rights violations, he admits, but recalls that the concept of crimes against humanity covers a wide range of abuses. He therefore wonders what is being criticized precisely for them.

Why, he insists, the prosecution has not given so far more information on the reason for their arrest? Another question, why today, he says. At 75, Mahamat Nouri is one of the fiercest opponents of Chadian President Idriss Deby. Some may ask questions about "collusion" between Paris and N'Djamena.

We should know a little more Thursday, after their four days in custody. Either there are no charges and they will be released, or the prosecution will decide to refer them to an examining magistrate for an indictment.
