According to the data presented, India may already overtake China in 2027 and become the world leader in terms of population.

According to forecasts of scientists, 50% of population growth in the next 30 years will occur at the expense of nine countries - India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Egypt and the United States.

By 2050, a twofold increase in the population of tropical Africa is also expected.

“The fastest growing population is in the poorest countries of the world, which leads to additional difficulties in fighting poverty, inequality and hunger, and also undermines efforts to strengthen education and health care systems,” said Liu Zhenming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs issues.

Another trend is the aging of the global population due to an increase in life expectancy and a decrease in the birth rate.

This is most noticeable in Europe and North America.

Thus, in 2018, the number of elderly people aged 65 and over for the first time exceeded the number of children under 5 years old.

It is expected that by 2050 the population will decrease by at least 1% in 55 countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Latvia and Lithuania.
