Omar al-Bashir was referred Sunday, June 16 to the prosecutor's office in charge of corruption cases in Khartoum. He had not made a public appearance since his dismissal on April 11.

Excerpted from his prison for the occasion, Omar al-Bashir appeared on Sunday in front of the premises of the prosecution wearing a traditional white jellaba, turban around his head, escorted by a large military convoy.

Once there, the deposed leader was " informed of the accusations against him ": corruption, illegal possession of foreign currency and illegal receipt of gifts, says Aladdin Dafallah, a public prosecutor, quoted by AFP.

Omar al-Bashir had not been seen in public since his ousting of power on April 11. This appearance is only the first step in a long judicial process.

According to the Attorney General, the former head of state will also have to explain his suspicions of money laundering and terrorist financing.
