The activists who embarked on this journey want to seek arbitration by the President of the Republic on the issue of the attachment of the Loire-Atlantique to Britain.

Activists of an association favorable to the attachment of the Loire-Atlantique to the region Brittany left Saint-Nazaire, in Loire-Atlantique, Friday, by bicycle, with the objective of rallying Paris to file a petition signed by 105.000 people.

They want to join Paris on June 25

"The objective is to ask the President of the Republic for arbitration or to ask the National Assembly to take a decision that goes in the right direction, that is to say that it makes a draft of law that allows to return to this issue, "said Paul Loret, co-president of Brittany together, association with 1,500 members.

Nine people, including five cyclists, left Saint-Nazaire Friday with the idea of joining the capital on June 25, after several regional stages. Activists hope to meet with MPs, but no official meeting is scheduled for the time being.

The referendum, remained a dead letter

They took with them "the petition signed by 105,000 people", or about 10% of the electoral body of Loire-Atlantique, according to Paul Loret. The petitioners plead for the attachment of the department to Brittany rather than to the Pays-de-la-Loire region, citing cultural and historical affinities.

The Loire-Atlantique departmental council voted in December 2018 against this attachment, a question recently raised by a petition, but voted for the organization of a decision-making referendum on the subject, which remained a dead letter.
