Each candidate must be supported by at least 8 Conservative MPs. The 313 party members in the House of Commons will then vote by secret ballot on several rounds. First round: this Thursday, June 13 all candidates who have not made at least 16 votes will be eliminated.

Tuesday, June 18, candidates must obtain this time at least 32 votes. If all the candidates get there, the one with the lowest score is eliminated. Conservative MPs will continue to vote until there are only two candidates left.

The final decision will go to the 124,000 members of the Conservative Party. They will vote a priori during the week of July 22 by post, to decide between the two finalists. The winner will be appointed leader of the conservative party and therefore prime minister of the United Kingdom.
