US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to receive his Mexican counterpart on Wednesday, June 5, while the White House threatens to impose on June 10 a 5% tax on all Mexican products.

The experts are almost unanimous: imposing a tax on all Mexican products may weigh heavily on the economies of both countries. Mexico's foreign minister will discuss the new tariffs with his US counterpart on Wednesday (June 5th) in Washington, DC, and will try to find out more about US requirements for controlling migration flows.

But since London, Donald Trump has showered hopes that these negotiations will succeed. " We will see if we can do something, but I think it is more likely that we impose these taxes, " warned the US president.

Republicans against the tax

Donald Trump, however, faces some hostility within his own camp. Several elected Republicans threaten to hold a congressional vote to block the measure. But the president does not believe it. " I do not think they will, and if they do, it's insane, " he said before adding, " Nothing is more important than the border, I have tremendous support from Republicans ".
