EDF wants to offer to pay the owners of electric vehicles that will provide the network with the electricity contained in the battery when they do not use their car.

Making money with his electric car will soon be possible, says EDF which launches Monday a new service: the "smart charging". While 96% of the time, electric cars are stopped, EDF wants to use this time and the electricity stored in the batteries of 100% electric cars to reinject it into the network.

"With the 'intelligent charge', and in particular the power supply by the electric vehicle network, we have a trifecta, which is economical for the customer, low carbon for the planet, and optimal for the electrical system", details Monday on Europe 1 Yannick Duport, director of electric mobility of the EDF group.

Electricity for his house and the neighborhood

In concrete terms, by using this energy source, EDF hopes to reinject it into the local network, especially when it is in peak periods. "The offer will be stalled with the customer and according to his expectations, but the battery electricity can be used to turn on its lights, operate the oven or even help the network", while allowing the complete charging of the vehicle says Yannick Duport at the microphone of Matthieu Belliard.

The customer will be rewarded for this service: "in favorable cases, it will be of the order of a full electric. The price will depend on the use and the time when the customer will let plug his vehicle", explains he. This will also allow customers to not pay for their electricity supply.

However, this service should only be offered to individuals within two years, and currently only concerns the fleets of companies and local authorities linked to specific terminals.
