A few tears and anecdotes in shambles: the sacred monster of the cinema Alain Delon returned to his long career Sunday, during a masterclass at the Cannes Film Festival.

- The advice of Allegre: "Do not play, screw"

In 1957, Alain Delon, who had no training as an actor, shot his first film, "When the woman gets involved" Yves Allégret.

"Before the first scene of the first day, he told me + I would like to see you two minutes in the lodge, I would like to say something to you + And he told me this, which marked me for all my life, which has was of capital importance: + Listen to me well: do not play, look how you look, speak as you speak, listen as you listen, do everything as you do, be you, do not play, vis + ", tells there.

"As I said later, I never played in my life, in all the movies I did, I live my roles."

- "Plein Soleil": "the little one is right"

In 1960, Alain Delon became a star thanks to René Clément's "Plein Soleil", his first big film, for which he managed to convince the filmmaker to play the lead role, that of the criminal Tom Ripley, rather than that of the son of billionaire planned for him. "It happened one night," he says.

"There were the two producers, the Hakim brothers, and René Clément, it was at his place and he had his wife, Bella, who was everything for René Clément, and who always controlled and supervised him and in whom he had a huge confidence, and then the producers start talking to me, and I say what I think nicely, + listen it's not for me +, "he recalls.

"The director gets upset a bit (...) And at that moment, a silence is made. There was Mrs. Rene Clement who was at the bottom of the kitchen wiping his dishes, and who says + René darling, the little one is right + it's over. "

- Tears for Annie Girardot

After the broadcast of an extract of "Rocco and his brothers" (1960) by Luchino Visconti, in which he plays alongside Annie Girardot, Alain Delon can not restrain his tears. "I did not come here to whine," says the 83-year-old actor.

"To see Annie as I saw her, it killed me, she is beautiful," he adds, warmly applauded, after mentioning his meeting with Visconti: "He told me + you are Rocco I saw 'Plein Soleil', Rocco it will be you, unless you refuse it + ".

- "The Samurai" and the Melville Bird

Alain Delon talks about his meeting with Jean-Pierre Melville for the first of three films they shot together, "The Samurai" (1967).

"Melville starts telling me the story, I'm sitting there, and after 4-5 minutes, Jef Costello (his character, ed) did not say a word, and I stop him and tell him + Jean-Pierre, it's been five minutes since you tell me the story, and I have not said a word + He tells me + not yet, it will come later + I said: + then it's no need to go further, I'm doing the movie + ".

He then tells how the shooting of the film, in which his character has a bird in a cage, was disturbed by the fire of Melville studios in Paris. "I'm going to studios," he recalls.

"There, I see Melville with his Stetson, his dressing gown, his wife, his secretary, watching him burn his life," he says. "At one point, he said to me: + my coco, our bird, our bird, his whole career was burning, everything was screwed up and he was thinking about our piaf that was grilling, and nothing else".
