On Saturday, this year's competition in Israel will be under heavy scrutiny as the truce between Palestinian Hamas and the Jewish state remains very fragile.

Hackers briefly interrupted the Eurovision webcast on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, with a false alert to the rocket attack. She was imputed by the Israeli television to the Islamist movement Hamas.

Tel-Aviv satellite images broadcast

This alert is a reminder of the threat that a possible bout of violence will weigh on the competition, about ten days after a confrontation between the Israeli army and the Palestinian armed groups of the Gaza Strip, including Hamas. The online broadcast of the first Eurovision Tel Aviv semifinal by Israeli public television Kan was abruptly cut off by what appears to be satellite images of the Israeli city surmounted by a cloud of smoke suggesting the explosion of a craft.

The sequence ends with the sound of a siren and a message in English. The latter is similar to those used by the Israeli army to prevent an attack. The retransmission on traditional television screens has not been affected.

"The fastest victory in Israel's history over Hamas"

"At one point, someone - apparently Hamas - took control of the digital retransmission," said Kan boss Eldad Koblenz on Wednesday. "I'm happy to say that we managed to overcome the attack in minutes," he said on military radio. "I think this is the fastest victory in Israel's history on Hamas," he joked. Israel has waged three wars in Hamas, in power in the Gaza Strip, about 70 km south of Tel Aviv, and its allies since 2008.
