Algerian opposition leader Rachid Nkaz, who submitted his candidacy for the presidential elections in Algeria, was arrested on Friday by Swiss police in the hospital where President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is in Geneva.

"I confirm the arrest of Nkaz, who is currently being heard at the police headquarters because a complaint has been filed against him for violating the sanctity of the hospital," Geneva police spokeswoman Joanna Matte told AFP.

A police spokeswoman said Nkaz had been admitted to the hospital "while being asked not to."

The case of the candidacy of activist Rachid Nkaz for the Algerian presidential election this year turned into a "fictional story" after another person appeared in his place bearing his name and surname to present his entry into the presidential race.

One person went out to journalists at the Constitutional Council, who said he was named Rachid Nkaz and was working mechanically and would run for the April 18 presidential elections instead of Rashid Nkaz.

Amidst the astonishment of journalists and attendance, the same person stated that Rachid Nkaz could not stand for ten years without a break from Algeria, as stipulated in the constitution on conditions for running for president.

Nkaz, a controversial political activist, ran in the French presidential election in 2012 and then renounced French citizenship in 2013 to run for president next year.

Prior to submitting his candidacy in March 2014, Nkaz Ho and his file disappeared, accusing the authorities of plotting to prevent him from filing his file until the deadline, in an incident that sparked widespread controversy in the country and the authorities denied its relationship with him.
