Almost two years after the explosive attacks on a mosque and a convention center in Dresden, the defendant Nino K. was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison. The regional court in the Saxon capital condemned K. for attempted murder, causing a blast of explosives and attempted particularly severe arson.

K. is said to have detonated self-built pipe bombs in front of the Fatih Mosque on September 26, 2016. The imam and his family remained unhurt in the attack. A little later, another bomb exploded by the accused exploded at the International Congress Center. The attacks just before the central celebration of the Day of German Unity in Dresden caused a sensation nationwide.

In her plea, the prosecution had demanded ten years and nine months in prison. K. made a confession in February. He admitted to having built pipe bombs and other explosive devices and, among other things, dumped them in front of the mosque. He pleads guilty, said the 31-year-old in his personal statement.

Two and a half months later, investigators found another 4.6-kilogram blast and fire charge in his apartment as part of his arrest. K. indicates that the bomb was intended as a New Year's fireworks display. He also admitted in court the production of two more explosive devices, one of which was later found in the Elbe, the other in another river.
