“We welcome today's decision by Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK to recognize Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela,” RIA News reports Pompeo.

According to him, Washington is also inspired by the “resolution of the European Parliament of January 31,” which also recognizes Guaido.

He added that the US is calling on "all countries, including other EU member states, to support the people of Venezuela, recognizing the Guaido as interim president."

On February 4, Guaido was recognized by a number of European countries as the temporary head of Venezuela.

On January 23, the head of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaido, declared himself the interim head of state. Washington called on Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro to hand over power to him.
