The US Defense Department confirmed to the island that US forces had delayed six Emirati soldiers after being hit in an anti-terrorism operation targeting al-Qaeda in Yemen.

The Pentagon said it had provided intelligence and air support to the UAE nationals, as well as refueling planes.

US forces stressed that the operation was part of the fight against terrorism, not in the context of the Saudi-UAE alliance of the Houthis.

US forces did not indicate the location and timing of the evacuation, or any details related to the nature of the operation.

The US Senate voted a few days ago to go ahead with a draft resolution to end US support for the Saudi-Emirati alliance in Yemen, bypassing a procedural obstacle to its discussion and a final vote on it.

The draft resolution calls for a halt to US military support for the Saudi-UAE-led coalition in Yemen.
