US activists confirmed the death of Alia Abdel Nour on Saturday in prison in Abu Dhabi after the authorities refused to release her for treatment.

The woman has died of cancer, while rights activists accuse the authorities of neglecting her treatment.

Alia was arrested on 29 July 2015, then forcibly disappeared in an unknown location for four months without being allowed to communicate with her family, and without disclosing any information about her fate to any party. Later she was brought before the judicial authorities and tried on charges of financing terrorism and dealing with Terrorists outside the country, before being sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.

The tragedy began in the morning at the home of her family in the Emirate of Ajman when the security unit stormed the house and arrested her after beating and kicked and tied and prevented her from wearing her veil, and left the father's house with a security company heavily armed with dogs and police, according to human rights sources.

Throughout the first four months of detention, Alia was held hostage in solitary confinement without a mattress or cover except for the strong light of the lamp centered on her body, in the course of torture, the most basic of which was the addition of a ban on family visitation or her whereabouts. Torture and disappearance continued without trial for another eight months, during which Alia and her family were subjected to torture, including restrictions on the parties, and forced to stand for long hours.

She was tortured with blindfolds for periods of more than 18 hours and forced to take off her hijab, which is an essential part of the cultural and religious identity of the tolerant emirates.

The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain said that Alia's family was not allowed to visit her until two months after her detention in Al-Wathba prison, and she lost more than ten kilos of weight because of the deterioration of her health due to the above circumstances, where cancer returned to spread again in her body, with Swelling of the lymph nodes, tissue and fibrosis, as well as osteoporosis due to prolonged detention in a very cold room with no brushes or cover.
