US President Donald Trump on Saturday referred to "great progress" in trade talks with China after talking with his counterpart Xi Jinping over the phone.

The two countries observe a truce since December 1st. "I have just had a long and very good phone call with President Xi of China, we are making good progress towards an agreement," tweeted the Republican billionaire. "If we get there, it will be very broad and cover all areas and all disputes, we are making great progress," he insisted. After having fought a fierce trade war, with a bidding war on tariffs, the two countries are observing a truce since December 1 to give a chance to the negotiation.

Soon an American delegation in Beijing. On the sidelines of a G20 summit in Argentina, Xi Jinping has been granted a 90-day deadline, until March 1, for the entry into force of new punitive tariffs in the United States on Chinese products. In return, China has announced that it will suspend on January 1, for three months, the customs surcharges imposed on cars and auto parts imported from the United States, and has placed several large orders of American soybeans. According to Bloomberg, a US delegation, led by Deputy Trade Representative Jeffrey Gerrish, will travel to Beijing in the second week of January to continue negotiations.
