According to the Democrats, dozens of e-mail addresses of the committee were the goal of a spellingfish campaign — sending letters with an infected hyperlink. They also stated that leading security experts linked spirishing with Russian intelligence.

"Thus, it is likely that Russian intelligence again attempted to illegally penetrate the DNC computers in November 2018," the lawsuit stated.

In April 2018, the US Democratic Party sued Russia, the campaign headquarters of Donald Trump and WikiLeaks, accusing them of influencing the US elections in 2016.

In November, US intelligence agencies said they had not recorded successful attempts to hack the voting infrastructure.
