The American University of Kuwait (AUC) has announced the short list of the third edition of the Forum Short Story Award, the highest value in the Arab region for this genre.

Each writer receives a short list of five thousand dollars, while winning the winner of the group winning another twenty thousand dollars, in addition to the group's translation of the English language.

A ceremony will be held on December 3 at the American University of Kuwait to announce the winning story collection and award the prize.

The award was received in 1973. The jury was composed of five books and critics headed by Kuwaiti Suad al-Enezi and members of Tunisia's Abdel-Salam al-Salami, the Sudanese Emir Taj al-Sarr, the Iraqi Najim Abdullah Kazem and the Saudi Mohammed Abbas.

"Although the themes of the Arab living have dominated a large proportion of the candidates' work, the themes of the war and its negative effects have constituted a large proportion of the shortlisted stories of the short list," said the president of the Jury in a statement. Saudi Arabia is Balqis Almlahim, while the group took Mohammed Jaafar realistically, and appeared on the group "refuge of absence" of the image of Izz al-Din imagination and alienation.

The prize was established in 2015 by a partnership between the American University of Kuwait and the Cultural Forum Foundation, headed by writer Talib Rifai. The prize was awarded in the first session in 2016 to the Palestinian Mazen Maarouf, while won in the second session in 2017 by Syrian Shahla Ajili.
