Raya al-Hassan is a woman at the height of her mandate entrusted with a sovereign portfolio of such importance, breaking the barriers and stereotypes, and to be the first woman to hold this position in the history of the Republic of Lebanon and the Arab world.

The appointment of a woman to the position of the Ministry of the Interior is a bold and bold step from Saad Hariri. Lebanon has never seen a woman take over the Ministry of Interior. The Arab world has never seen a woman appointed to this ministry.

A woman in the position of Minister
In her rare press interviews, Raya al-Hassan refuses to be appointed as a woman, but insists that her efficiency is the path that led her to the first ministry to oversee her.

"I have a responsibility to change the stereotype of women in our society, as well as my ministerial responsibilities and responsibilities," Raya said in an interview one year after the finance ministry took over as a woman.

"Interior" challenges me to prove women's ability
"The Ministry of the Interior is the Ministry of Law Enforcement and Citizen Service, and it challenges me as the first female minister to prove women's ability," Interior Minister Raya al-Hassan said in a speech received by Minister Nihad al-Mashnouk.

"Every law enforcement officer in every village in Lebanon is responsible for protecting her," she said. "Security is not incompatible with respect for human rights and freedom of expression."

Civil marriage will not abolish religious marriage
Minister Raya al-Hassan said in a press interview that she personally favors a framework for civil marriage. "I will talk about this and I will try to open the door for a serious and deep dialogue on this issue with all religious authorities and others, Civil society ".

"As long as the civil marriage is optional, it will not cancel the religious marriage," she said in Twitter.

Biography of a mother of three daughters
Born in 1967, she is married and has three daughters. She holds a BA in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut and an MBA from George Washington University in 1990.

From 1995 to 1999, she served as Assistant to the Minister of Finance and Financial Affairs Coordinator of the Ministry, and was responsible before the Ministry entered into UNDP with the Lebanese Prime Minister.

Since 2003, Raya has worked with three finance ministers before being selected in 2009 to be finance minister under Saad Hariri's government. She has held office until 2011.

The former Lebanese prime minister, Tammam Salam, decided in 2015 to form a board of directors of an economic body in Tripoli. Raya al-Hassan was elected president and general manager of the council.
