“Ukraine does not need to join the EU. I think that in the periods about which both Klimkin and Poroshenko spoke, Ukraine will “recover”, sanity will return to it, after which there will be a turn from the West to the East, ”Dudchak explained.

He noted that under the current Ukrainian authorities it is impossible to build long-term plans.

“No one knows what Ukraine will be like in a year, two, five years ... The current leadership’s activity is aimed at ensuring that nothing remains of Ukraine. The situation is not improving, people's patience is not immense. A temporary distance of five years is a term that can be spoken of as “never”, the expert concluded.

Earlier, Klimkin estimated Ukraine’s chances of joining the EU within five years.

In December, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, announced that he intended to prepare the country for membership in the European Union and NATO in the next five years.
