A local source in the Yemeni city of Taiz said that the clashes that took place in the province of Taiz between the national army and factions of the Abu Abbas Brigades resulted in the death of Ayman Jamal Sharhan, a member of the Battaz Brigades and the nephew of the leader Adel Al-Azzi, who is accused of being one of the leaders of al-Qaeda in the city.

The Taiz police leadership had demanded Adel Abdu Fara - known as Abu Abbas - to hand over Adel al-Azi and described as "killers with him" to the security services.

A statement issued by patrol and road protection police in the Yemeni province of Taiz said that illegal gangs attacked the sites handed over to patrol police and road security in the areas of Bab Musa, the Grand Gate and the Taj Shamsan Hotel, killing one patrol soldier and injuring four others.

The statement accused Adel al-Azi, the leader of the Abu Abbas Brigades, of trying to assassinate the police commander of the rescue, Mohammed Muhayoub, when his gunmen opened fire on him in the vicinity of the Shamsan Hotel. His personal facilities were killed and four others were injured.

The police called on the Governor of Taiz, the Presidential Committee and the Security Committee to play their part in the face of the rescue personnel, demanding that the killers be handed over immediately.
